Our Curriculum, "You Are Enough!"

Every child deserves to know that they matter.

Children who feel connected, understood, and capable are more likely to thrive - in school and in life.

You Are Enough! is a research-based social and emotional learning curriculum created to help students develop the skills that make healthy relationships, emotional resilience, and strong communities possible.

Rather than teaching children simply what to think, the curriculum helps them understand themselves, communicate with others, and build the confidence to navigate life's challenges.

As an educator, I saw students struggling with loneliness, anxiety, conflict, and a growing sense that they didn't belong. As a friend, I saw my friends' children struggling with their worth. As an aunt, I was hearing how children are speaking to each other. As a researcher, I wanted to understand why.

My doctoral research explored the factors contributing to suicidal ideation in preadolescent children by interviewing teachers, mental health professionals, emergency room personnel, school psychiatrists, and child mental health specialists across Washington State.

One finding stood above the rest:

Children need consistent opportunities to develop emotional awareness, healthy relationships, resilience, and supportive communities long before they reach a crisis.

That research became the foundation for You Are Enough!

Created by educator, communication scholar, and suicide prevention researcher, Dr. Mary Stover.

So what is it?

Designed for Kindergarten through 5th grade, the curriculum fits naturally into a school's existing schedule.

  • One lesson each week

  • Six-week units

  • Four hours of teacher training

  • Minimal preparation

  • Ready to implement

Each grade focuses on one foundational skill that builds upon the previous year.

Kindergarten
Kindness

1st
Belonging

2nd
Resilience

3rd
Compassion

4th
Awareness

5th
Responsibility

Why the focus on these six themes?

Children don't develop confidence by accident.

Each year's lessons build on the previous year, gradually helping students strengthen both their relationship with themselves and with others.

Beginning with kindness and belonging, students learn the emotional and interpersonal skills that prepare them for resilience, compassion, self-awareness, and ultimately personal responsibility.

By fifth grade, students have practiced the kinds of communication, reflection, and emotional regulation that support healthy relationships and lifelong well-being.

Built from original research!

So much more than social emotional learning

The goal has never been to simply teach students about emotions.

The goal is to help children become compassionate classmates, confident communicators, thoughtful leaders, and resilient human beings.

The curriculum encourages students to:

• recognize and name emotions

• build healthy friendships

• navigate conflict

• ask for help

• practice empathy

• strengthen self-compassion

• contribute positively to their communities

Because when children understand themselves, they're better equipped to understand others.

The research behind the curriculum, the outcomes, and what is being done.

The stuff no one wants to talk about

When schools face unimaginable challenges, compassionate communication matters more than ever.

No school plans for tragedy, yet every school hopes it will be prepared if difficult conversations become necessary.

Whether a community is grieving the loss of a student, responding to violence, supporting students after a suicide, or helping children process events that feel frightening and confusing, educators are often expected to provide comfort while navigating their own emotions.

Dr. Stover's doctoral research focused on preadolescent suicide prevention and the protective role of belonging, connection, and healthy communication. That same research became the foundation for the You Are Enough! curriculum and continues to inform her work with schools today.

2B Learning Labs offers research-informed consultation, professional development, and communication support to help schools navigate life's most difficult conversations with clarity, compassion, and hope.

Because no school should have to figure it out alone.
